Not only does our team provide volunteer help at FLL events, but we support and encourage the growth of the FLL program in our very own middle school. Our FLL leads (students and members of Gatorbotics) work tirelessly to create and mentor up to 3 FLL team at Castilleja’s middle school. Members of our team excitedly sign up to mentor the FLL teams because many of us were on FLL and want the opportunity to get a younger student “stuck on STEM.” Additionally, by partnering with FLL, Gatorbotics creates an even bigger community in the school and is able to train younger students to think in the FIRST mindset, readying them for FRC when they reach high school.
We believe that we must look to the next generation of students to spread the message of FIRST. We hope to inspire younger students by mentoring Castilleja’s FLL teams and three of the Tech Museum’s Tech Challenge teams. In 2012 and 2013, we hosted an FLL competition at Castilleja and had team members both participate and mentor Iridescent’s Technovation Challenge teams.
