Our team was formed in December of 2004. We are located at: Bourn Idea Lab, Castilleja School, 1310 Bryant Street, Palo Alto CA. Over the last nine years, we have grown from five students to forty-five. Our biggest challenge has been starting at a school where the student body is very small: there are only 255 students at our high school. This, coupled with the fact that most students were involved in athletic extracurriculars, a valued activity in our community, and the reality that the STEM fields weren’t appealing to many girls in 2004 made robotics a tough sell to students. Also, our school can only offer a limited number of classes given the school’s size. Because of this, our coding class was dropped in 2005 and was only brought back in 2012 after the requests of Gatorbotics students.
