What a season! The last few weeks have been an absolute blur of prototyping, building, coding, debugging, and so much more! We’ve cycled through so many iterations of our robot, and as the last few hours of the season dwindle down, I can’t help but look at our final product with pride. Today, we’ve been finishing up details such as the BOM (Bill of Materials), creating a cover for our electronics board so it’s protected from any flying foam basketballs, and attaching limit switches. Of course, we’ve also had tryouts for who will drive our robot at competitions. The selection process involved an obstacle course during which hopefuls had to navigate the robot around several cones, tip the ramp down, collect foam basketballs, and attempt to make baskets. In the end, we selected amazing drivers, Victoria and Caroline (the holy spirit).
Today also involved the presenting of farewell cards to our senior members at our last team dinner. The event was filled with both laughter and tears. Many of our seniors and mentors entertained the rest of us by inhaling helium from balloons, then talking in funny voices. All in all, it was a great dinner.
Currently, I am sitting against a wall of the gym looking out at the rest of the team. Several programmers are clustered around a television screen and a few computers looking at code, while many build team members are hovering around the robot waiting for it to be initialized to assess how well it can shoot after a long day of adjusting and tweaking. It’s been a fabulous day and as I scan my surroundings, I can’t help but reminisce on the last six weeks. We’ve come so far, and I cannot wait to see our robot in action in just a few weeks! It will be amazing, I’m sure. Ciao!
